Revival Chestnut Tree Orchard

Chestnut partially enclosed in spiky green husk on a tree branch.

At North of Eden Farm, we are dedicated to sustainable farming practices that prioritize environmental health and biodiversity. Our farm specializes in growing hybrid Revival chestnut trees, combining resilience with high-quality nut production to restore native ecosystems.

Revival is a hybrid chestnut developed to combine the excellent nut quality and growth habit of the American chestnut with the disease resistance of Chinese chestnut genetics. They were bred as part of efforts to restore chestnut production after the devastating chestnut blight that eliminated most native American chestnuts.

Key Characteristics

  • Large to extra-large nuts with excellent flavor. Some growers describe Revival as producing some of the largest chestnuts available.
  • Good resistance to chestnut blight due to its hybrid genetics.
  • Typically begins producing nuts in about 3–5 years, with heavier production as trees mature.
  • Cold hardy to approximately USDA Zone 6.
  • Nuts generally ripen from late September into October, depending on location.

Pollination

Like most chestnuts, Revival trees should not be planted alone. For reliable nut production, plant at least two genetically different chestnut trees within pollination distance (typically within 50 feet).
